el progresivo

I understand that in English the present progressive can be used to understand what's happening right now, what is going to happen, and what someone is doing over a period of time. But, in Spanish the present progressive is only used to describe an action that is currently in progress. I also understand that the Spanish present progressive is formed with estar plus the present participle. The present participle is formed by adding -ando to the stem of -ar verbs and -iendo to the stem of -er and -ir verbs.
